beforeUdig came to us with a simple message - check the plans before you dig, or put yourself and others in serious danger.

They commissioned us to create a range of safety videos for Safe Digging Month to show the sobering consequences of what could happen if you hit an underground cable or pipe while excavating.

And this message wasn't just for construction sites. Plenty of injuries happen during a DIY dig on private property too.

We knew the video had to be engaging but it also needed to show the severity of what happens when excavations go wrong.

Shareability was the goal and within the first seven days of launching the video on LinkedIn, beforeUdig saw over 1,100 shares of their video across New Zealand, Australia, England, Scotland, Portugal, and the USA.

This was achieved with $0 ad spend and shows just how powerful a short, impactful message delivered through video can be.

"Thanks (ODV) for an amazing video, you really nailed what we were looking for to get the safe digging message out there. Your team were very professional, creative and super easy to work with."

Behind the scenes

Half the video was filmed on an outdoor construction site while the other half was filmed in a home setting. The shoot was made possible with an on set crew of 12 and because of our intense pre-production focus (scripting, storyboarding and casting), filming on the day felt like a breeze.

The leading concept was "don't play with your safety" so we took that literally and built a Monopoly board game based on digging safety.
