How To Engage Your Staff With An Internal Communications Video

Struggling to get your team to buy your company strategy and vision? If you asked them to tell you what it is, how many people would actually know?

The thing is, regardless of whether you’ve got 5, 10, 50, 200 or more employees, how you communicate with them will directly affect how aligned they are with your business vision and consequently, the success of your company!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN STAFF DON’T GET IT?

It’s pretty simple really. If your people don’t understand or buy into your company strategy and vision, the work they do and the conversations they have won’t be aligned with where you want to go. Your people drive your company and if they haven’t ‘got’ what you’re trying to do as the business leader or owner, your results will reflect that.

So, you need to communicate with them, and trust us, sending an email just won’t cut it and honestly, can be quite snore-inducing. Watch the video above!

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR TEAM ON-SIDE?

Your employees work hard for you. They have pressures and demands and frankly, can’t be bothered with pontifications from up top. There is a way to engage your team and make them believe what you have to say however.

An internal communications video.

A short, engaging video that talks through your business goals, strategy, your vision or mission in a visually compelling way will be at least 12x more effective than copy or infographics. This doesn’t just apply to strategy either. If you have anything to communicate, like your code of conduct, health and safety guidelines, or an onboarding guide - all of these things are BETTER with video.

MORE AND MORE COMPANIES ARE DOING THIS.

We’re talking to more and more businesses who are dedicating their resources to communicating with their staff effectively. We’ve made internal comms videos for Foodstuffs, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, ASB, and Sealord (to name a few), and the feedback from their team has been phenomenal! They’ve seen surprise, engagement, and ultimately way more buy-in from their team. That’s why they keep coming back for more videos!

Watch the video below to see something we created for Foodstuffs - a tour of their new Distribution Centre building with a twist. We worked with an actor and a voice over artist to guide the viewer through the new facilities in this engaging video style.

NOT ENOUGH BUDGET?

It’s a fair question. Your bottom-line is important, right? So invest in the people who actually make the money. If staff is your biggest asset, you need to communicate with them in a way that makes them feel seen, looked after, and interested in the guiding vision behind what they do every single day. If they don’t believe in what they’re making or doing, you can bet your customers won’t either.
